SUP State’s “Ride the River'' Tour is our premier paddleboarding experience, featuring a scenic section of the Saluda River from Piedmont to Pelzer, with water flows manageable at the most basic skill level.
This guided river tour provides an immersive encounter with the beauty and history of the Saluda River combined with effective paddling techniques, gear introduction, and river safety.
Tour Description
$75 per person ($300 min, 6 person max.)
Tour Duration: 3-4 hrs.
Your adventure begins at our exclusive put-in point at the historic Piedmont Dam—just 20 min from downtown Greenville. Established as a mill town called Garrison Shoals in the 1800s, Native Americans called Piedmont the “Big Shoals of the Saluda” due to its prolific fishing and exceptionally useful ford.
Once geared up and introduced to your stand-up paddleboard, you’ll wind along the riverbanks as your SUP State tour guide details how archeological digs have unearthed evidence of the Saluda’s utilization by human civilizations as many as 13,000 years ago. You’ll learn how the Cherokee natives thrived among the river’s natural resources and the ways incoming settlers and modern innovators harnessed the power of the water to run textile and grain mills.
The smooth, flatwater section of your SUP journey allows observation of the various flora and fauna supported by the Saluda. Keep an eye out for blue herons or bald eagles, freshwater bass and trout, as well as native plants such as tulip poplars, asters, and the monarch-loving milkweed.
As your tour draws to an end, you’ll trade your tranquility for a little tenacity as you navigate an enjoyable section of rapid water before docking your SUP at the Timmerman Jr. Kayak Launch in Pelzer, SC.

“Ride the River” Tour(French Broad)
SUP State’s “Ride the River'' Tour is our premier paddleboarding experience, featuring a scenic section of the French Broad River out of Rosman, NC, with water flows manageable at the most basic skill level.
This guided river tour provides beautiful river beach relaxation with fishing, picnic, and fun for the whole family.
Tour Description
$100 per person ($400min, 6 paddlers max, 2 children riders)
Tour Duration: 2-7hrs.
Your adventure begins in Rosman, NC, approximately 1-1/2hrs from Greenville, SC. This section of the French Broad River is class 1-2 river with a gentle current mixed with sandy beaches and crystal clear water. Great for fishing, picnics, and wildlife viewing.
You will encounter some excitement with a few fast moving shoals and big trout swimming right under you board! Bring you fishing gear, frisbees, footballs, and cooler. We have pole holders available to attach directly to your SUP. Fishing license required.
You can select trip lengths of 2-3 hours, or 4-6 hours depending on flow. We can accommodate children ages 6-11 as riders with a capable adult paddler or, join the guide on our large expedition size board. $50/child rider.

Paddleboard Classes
Introduction to Paddleboarding
$100 per person(2 person minimum)
Duration: 2 hour
Get your feet wet (or, rather, learn how to stay dry) with this 2-hour class focusing on the basics of stand-up paddleboarding. We will provide training on proper gear use and application, effective paddling techniques, and basic water safety.
Class can be booked for an individual or for groups.
